Happenings: Office-cial!

August 4, 2014

So as quickly as I announced the other day about the new Design Studio, we are just as quickly making this space come to life. We have only a month to get it ready for team AID and so we are wasting no time and starting all the renovations tomorrow morning! On the list of  :to do’s” we are building storage, adding doors, demoing bathroom, ripping up the floors and laying new ones, building desks, adding a conference area, a shipping area, a kitchenette, and a giant sample library…..its a lot but its all super exciting!!

Because this is my project, and I am the client, I am planning on being very candid about the process here on the blog! This time I can show you EVERYTHING…including the inevitable melt downs I am sure I will have along the way, HA! When I am working with clients, sometimes I have to limit the amount of process pics I show because, well frankly some clients just prefer I show simple “before and afters”. So this will be a little experiment for us and I am gonna really break this project down bit by bit so you can witness the pandemonium!

So friends, this is what we are doing!!

:The Initial Floor Plan:

Firstly, we are building quite a few large storage units. I need a place to display all of our pillows , rugs, and blankets. We have a lot of that stuff around here, so we will finally have a place to both store AND display it all!! Unit #1 and #2 will be toward the front of the space, where the “showroom” part of the operation will be. This is where you can “” or hang or sleep on a sofa…whatever you fancy!

Then along the wall where our design office area will start, we are building a giant sample library! I am MOST excited about this part..lemme tell you! I already have tons of those Ikea wire baskets shoved to the brim with fabrics, wallpapers, and junk, so we are building a pretty cabinet for them! They will just be a little less ikea-ish and more built-in feeling like our inspo picture. Also, I am bringing back a , like I had in my last office at home!

There is currently 2 weird little closet things, that I think were fitting rooms before I stepped in, and instead of ripping them down, I am gonna be mindful of my budget and try to work with them. I am turning one into a storage closet and one into a kitchenette.

and then, because the space is small and the openings to these weird rooms is too wide to hang a door…I am gong to put a large barn door up that slides across the entire Kitchenette, Storage closet, and Bathroom! In my mind it looks awesome..I hope it translates the same. It quite possibly could be a massive failure, but I am willing to take the risk !

I have been waffling back and forth about floors, but I ultimately want the space to feel warm and inviting. I loved the idea of wood at first, but then that was feeling a little to echoey to me and ultimately not the vibe I was going for.

SO I chose a really pretty wall to wall Blonde colored Sisal carpet.

So thats all for now!!!

Follow along on Instagram(amberinteriors) for more progress pics. I am really excited about this one guys! Fingers crossed I make it all fab, and don’t get a case of Multiple Decor Personalities and change my mind 9,004 times.

  1. I really, really like the idea of wall to wall sisal. That will be SO cozy!

And this is a total freak question, but how will the barn door work for the bathroom!?!?! Are you going to have to be sliding it all the time? Maybe I’m the only person that worries about things like that. I’m sure you have it handled!!

    xx

  2. I’m so excited for you Amber! I’m even more excited that I’ll be in LA in November so I can come and check it out! Good luck over the next month.

  3. This is going to be awesome! Thanks for sharing ALL of the ins-and-outs of it all. it’s going to be fun to follow along!!! I love that you are doing sisal carpet instead of hardwood. kind of refreshing & inviting?!

  4. LOVE, all the inspiration pics! It’s going to be amazing no doubt!!! I did read “Shoppe” on site, right? So excited, I can’t stand it! Thrilled to follow along! xo

  5. Wow! I’m so glad you get to share your process with us. I know the final product will be amazing. I can’t wait to see the final reveal of Unit #2 and the Sample Library. That cork board is massive! Whew! I know the wall to wall sisal will be beautiful!
